Climate Change: Evidence and Causes-Indian Context

Prabhakara S.

Abstract

Significant and lasting changes in average temperatures, precipitation, and other climatic conditions are referred as Climate Change. The Climate Change is not a simple environmental issue but it affects food security, water availability, livelihoods, public health, and economic stability. The article looks at the definition of climate change, the scientific proof that it occurs, its effects, especially in India and Maharashtra, and the human and environmental factors that are causing these changes. It also looked at national and international efforts to adopt to and mitigate climate change. The article was written by reviewing the existing literature on the subject. Extreme weather events, sea level rise, melting glaciers, rising temperatures, and ecological disturbances all provide clear proof that climate change is occurring. Most scientists agree that human activity is the main culprit. Climate change is a current fact that impacts public health, agriculture, water security, and economic stability in India and Maharashtra. India must simultaneously address the issues of environmental preservation and economic expansion. Future generations’ environmental and developmental paths will be determined by the decisions made today by governments, corporations, and individuals.
